Ammar Yassir (B.2005) is a Sudanese documentary photographer based between Sudan, Uganda, and Germany. His work centers on displacement, migration, and refugee communities across East Africa. His focus shifted toward Documentary Photography in 2023; he has documented the lives of displaced individuals and refugees as they work to rebuild in exile. Primarily self-taught, Yassir has expanded his practice through workshops and seminars with Sudan Visuals, VII Academy, Africa Foto Fair, Through The Lens Collective, and National Geographic. His photography has been featured in DIE ZEIT, The New Humanitarian, and Amnesty Journal. His work has earned multiple recognitions, including selection as a FOAM Talent 2026 and a commendation from the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant in 2024. Motivated by a deep sense of responsibility, Yassir believes African stories should be told by those with a lived connection to the communities they represent.
